Discover the Festival Murals & Artists
In 2025, the 4th edition of the S’Art Urban Art Festival took place from November 3rd to 8th, building upon the successful city-wide return of the event in 2023.
Drawing in a record-breaking crowd of over 130,000 attendees from across Cambodia and around the globe, Battambang was transformed into an extraordinary lively open-air gallery. During the six-day festival, visitors participated in free art workshops, Cambodia’s first immersive cultural tours, and panels led by artists and experts from the USA, Spain, Singapore, France, Germany, Colombia, Canada, Japan, Vietnam, Italy, Australia, the UAE, and many more.
In 2025, Phare Ponleu Selpak organized the festival with the critical support of the TUI Care Foundation, working in core partnership with Phare Creative Studio and Murals for Cambodia (FT Gallery & Studio). Other key partners included Total Energies, the Japan Foundation, the Institut français, Ville de Paris, the Battambang Provincial Government, and iDEN Agency.

Immerse & Tick reflects the themes of interconnection, symbolic storytelling through the animal world. At the heart is a water buffalo, a powerful emblem in Cambodian culture symbolizing strength, endurance, and the deep connection between people and the land. Traditionally a vital partner in rice farming, the buffalo embodies resilience, sustenance, and harmony with nature. Here, it is placed in a surrealist setting alongside fish and a white egret—species that share a symbiotic relationship in the natural world. This interplay of earth, air, and water becomes a metaphor for the interconnectedness of all life, including our own place within it. One fish is rendered in chrome, a subtle nod that speaks to the need to address environmental imbalance.

Dominic Laporte is an award-winning muralist and illustrator who co-founded DRIFT Mural Co. with his partner, Anaïs Labrèque, to create public artworks that enrich communities and celebrate local identities. He has created around 100 large-scale murals internationally—from Mexico to Romania—and has collaborated with institutions such as the Royal Canadian Navy, Adidas, Lexus, Microsoft, and Live Nation Canada.

In spring, Mount Fuji as seen from Lake Kawaguchi is breathtaking. Cherry blossoms in full bloom are reflected on the calm surface of the lake, while the snow-capped peak of Fuji stands gracefully against the clear blue sky.
This mural was created by Morio Nakajima, a renowned public bathhouse painter in Japan, as part of a collaborative project between the Japan Foundation, Phnom Penh Liaison Office and Phare Ponleu Selpak during the S’Art Urban Art Festival in November 2025.

About the Mural | អំពីគំនូលើជញ្ជាំង
NAKAJIMA Morio (Fukushima, 1945) is one of Japan’s last remaining Sento-e painters — artists who paint Mt. Fuji and natural landscapes on public bathhouse walls. With over 60 years of experience, he continues to preserve this traditional art form using roller brushes. In 2024, he received the Medal with a Yellow Ribbon from the Emperor of Japan.

This painting is an homage to Battambang (បាត់ដំបង), proudly presenting the city’s name in dynamic, stylised Khmer lettering. K7 wants to add colourful vitality to the city and transform an average wall into a lively painting. Using a vibrant street-art approach, the bright hues infuse the urban atmosphere with energy, creating a dynamic contrast against the gloomy background. More significantly, this piece aspires to raise the Khmer letter onto the world stage of modern art. It’s a strong blend of profound cultural legacy and current artistic expression, illustrating that our lovely writing can thrive in any setting. It’s about honouring our identity and bringing light to our streets.

Chamnan Darapong (K7) is a Cambodian graffiti artist whose passion for street art began in 2013 with just a few cans of spray paint. Influenced by raw street culture and Khmer identity, his works fuse bold colors, fluid motion, and expressive lettering. K7’s murals tell stories of culture, freedom, and emotion, transforming blank walls into vibrant reflections of his roots and artistic evolution.

About the Mural | អំពីគំនូលើជញ្ជាំង
The artwork represents the flourishing of urban art in Cambodia through graffiti-style calligraphy that pays homage to the festival’s name. The main illustration, depicting a young woman with an urban and anime inspired style, listening to music (alluding to the symbiosis between music and street art in hip hop) meanwhile Rumdul flowers, characteristic of the region and considered Cambodia’s national flower, blooms around.
It also draws inspiration from Keith Bosley’s anthology of Eastern poetry (Poetry of Asia/Five Millennia of Verse in Thirty-Three Languages), which includes Khmer poetry that describes the sun, compared to fire, as the greatest and most powerful light.

About the Mural | អំពីគំនូលើជញ្ជាំង
Asem Navarro has been an urban graffiti artist located in Madrid since the late 1990’s. He studied graphic design and worked for several advertising agencies until he decided to train as a professional illustrator. He uses his skills as a graffiti artist and illustrator to capture the harsh reality of the street in his stunning art works.

The artwork *Naga* portrays a woman dissolving into the sacred serpent, their forms entwining until they rise as a single, breathing entity. Within this union, the ancient symbols of the Naga unfurl: guardian of hidden waters, keeper of primordial depths, silent protector of temples, and timeless bridge between the earthly and the divine.
The background—a sugar-paper blue drifting into turquoise—echoes the fluid realm where the Naga dwells. Its soft hues blend with the gold in the woman’s hair and the serpent’s shimmering contours, weaving a harmony that evokes prosperity, renewal, and the eternal flow of vital energy.
The piece becomes a living metaphor: a suspended dance between body and spirit, where the feminine figure carries the ageless pulse of the Naga—creator, protector, and bringer of balance between earth, water, and soul.

Amed was born in Salerno in 1992. His path has been enriched by international experiences across Europe and by collaborations with global brands such as Netflix, Toyota and Warner Bros. These opportunities allowed him to merge art, design, and sustainability, strengthening the connection between aesthetic research and the urban environment.

This mural was born from the environment that surrounded me at the moment of its creation. The old walls, marked by time, inspired in me the idea of rebirth — the kind that art can offer to a place.
The hand, that of Moles, symbolizes the act of creation: a hand that gives life, transforms concrete and awakens the memory of the streets. It represents the power of art to bring spaces back to life, to breathe new energy into what once seemed frozen.
Beside it stands a child of Battambang, an innocent figure full of potential, reminding us that the city grows, evolves, and moves toward the future. His gaze looks forward, like a promise that culture, imagination, and youth will continue shaping the identity of this place.
Higher up appears the portrait of a friend holding his staff, an object found and connected to the history of Battambang, creating a bridge between past, present, and memory. He embodies roots, transmission, and the quiet strength of those who have lived and shaped the city.
Together, these elements tell a story of rebirth, lineage, and urban identity.

A self-taught artist from the graffiti scene, Ares draws his inspiration from street art since his adolescence. In 2016, he adopted spray paint, turning it into a form of art therapy. Active on projects in France and abroad, each mural preserves the memory of the spaces he inhabits.

Sinath is the woman portrayed in the mural. The artist met her at her café, a simple and welcoming place where, from the very first moment, her kindness created a sense of warmth and belonging. That casual encounter became the starting point of the mural.
Born from an everyday moment, the work highlights the presence and stories of ordinary people. It seeks to reflect their lives and explore the connections that unite us, even when we are living in distant and opposite parts of the world.

He has participated in events such as the Valparaíso Arts Biennial (Chile, 2024) and the Cochabamba Urban Art Biennial (Bolivia, 2025). He has also held solo exhibitions such as “Cahuin” (Santiago, Chile, 2022), “Para Que no me Olvides” (Santiago, Chile, 2023), among others.

This mural is a collaboration among three artists born from a spontaneous process few days before the production. . It marks a significant moment for Shaya, as it is his first mural alongside his father, FONKi. In a tribute to FONKi’s 20 years in graffiti, Lisa King decided to honor him by painting a portrait of his close friend just days prior to the mural’s production.
Lisa’s artwork reflects Rococo and Renaissance influences, evident in the posture and composition of her subject, while incorporating a contemporary New Age twist through the subject’s modern attire.
FONKi contributes his kbach graffiti style, which merges traditional Khmer ornaments with a modern aesthetic. The piece is further enhanced by Shaya’s abstract lines and painted clouds, creating a surrealistic atmosphere. This mural captures the artists’ journeys, emphasizing the process of building dreams one painting at a time.

Lisa is an Australian based / International multi-disciplinary artist. From a successful gallery owner and curator to a vibrant oil painter and large-scale muralist. In recent times, she has hit the street art festival circuit and made her mark in America, China, New Zealand, Indonesia, Germany, Cambodia & Australia.
FONKi (Paris, 1990) is a Cambodian–French Canadian artist raised in Montreal. Known for blending modern graffiti with traditional Khmer art, he created the first Khmer graffiti lettering in his award-winning documentary The Roots Remain. He is the founder of Murals for Cambodia Festival and owner of FT Gallery in Phnom Penh, supporting emerging Cambodian artists and promoting the city’s vibrant art scene.

FONKi (កើតនៅទីក្រុងប៉ារីស ឆ្នាំ១៩៩០) គឺជាសិល្បករខ្មែរ-បារាំង កាណាដា ដែលធំដឹងក្តីនៅទីក្រុងម៉ុងរ៉េអាល់។ លោកត្រូវបានគេស្គាល់តាមរយៈការបញ្ចូលគ្នានូវក្រាហ្វ៊ីទីសម័យទំនើបជាមួយសិល្បៈខ្មែរប្រពៃណី ហើយលោកក៏បានបង្កើតអក្សរក្រាហ្វ៊ីទីខ្មែរដំបូងគេបង្អស់នៅក្នុងខ្សែភាពយន្តឯកសារដែលទទួលបានពានរង្វាន់មានចំណងជើងថា “The Roots Remain”។ លោកគឺជាស្ថាបនិកមហោស្រព Murals for Cambodia និងជាម្ចាស់វិចិត្រសាល FT Gallery នៅភ្នំពេញ ដែលជួយគាំទ្រដល់សិល្បករខ្មែរជំនាន់ក្រោយ និងលើកកម្ពស់វិស័យសិល្បៈដ៏រស់រវើកនៅក្នុងទីក្រុង។

About the Mural | អំពីគំនូលើជញ្ជាំង
This mural examines contemporary Cambodian identity through the lens of
cultural continuity amid rapid modernization and globalization.
The central portrait symbolizes a modern Cambodian subject, introspective,
resilient, and forward-looking. Her direct gaze establishes a visual and conceptual
connection between inherited cultural knowledge and future trajectories,
positioning tradition as an active participant in progress rather than a passive memory.
The surrounding abstract forms and saturated color fields represent
the velocity of the contemporary world, referencing technological advancement,
global movement, and societal transformation. Embedded within these
forms are visual references to Cambodian mythology and traditional motifs,
emphasizing culture as a dynamic, evolving system rather than a static historical artifact.
Through this integration, the work proposes that cultural identity persists
not by resisting change, but by absorbing and reshaping it. The future,
in this sense, is not a departure from history, but its continued expression

About the Mural | អំពីគំនូលើជញ្ជាំង
Shahul is an artist from Palakkad, Kerala, where he grew up in a farming family. Apart from earning a certification from the Madras Government Technical Examination (MGTE), most of his artistic growth has been through self-learning, and experimentation. He strives to create art that inspires, uplifts, and connects people, while reflecting both tradition and modern creativity.
