Ou Vanndy (b. 1977) is a Cambodian visual artist whose practice fuses traditional Khmer symbolism with contemporary methods across painting, mixed media, and sculptural assemblage. His work explores cultural memory, resilience, and the vitality of nature, translating classical iconography into a present‑day visual language. Vanndy studied Fine Arts at the Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s historic national arts university founded in 1917 and renowned for its faculties in Plastic Arts and related disciplines. This foundational training underpins his material sensitivity and his sustained engagement with Cambodian heritage. He later broadened his exposure to contemporary art discourse at the Institut Français du Cambodge (IFC) (formerly the French Cultural Center), a key platform for exhibitions, workshops, and Franco‑Khmer cultural exchange that helped shape his contemporary studio perspective.Beyond studio practice, Vanndy has participated in national and international exhibitions, with projects often dialoguing with initiatives that connect art, memory, and peace education supported by Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and partners such as UNESCO. This context informs his interest in transforming historical narratives into visual forms that invite public reflection and cultural preservation.
