While Phare Ponleu Selpak plays an integral role as a sustainable economic agent for the surrounding communities by providing education, training and jobs for the younger generation, as well as attracting visitors in Battambang, we also aim to play an even more proactive role in the community through the following activities:
Arts & Culture Promotion
Phare Ponleu Selpak is one of the main artistic influencers in Cambodia and contributes to the dynamic, emerging Cambodian arts scene. Our student shows and exhibitions are a well-known tourist attraction, allowing visitors to have a greater understanding of Cambodia’s art and heritage. Phare Ponleu Selpak aims to play a larger role in bringing arts to the communities through additional arts education programmes aimed towards the local residents. We believe that the future sustainability, growth and evolution of the arts will only happen if the local communities build a deeper appreciation and take an active role for the arts and culture.
Alumni Relations & Artistic Incubator
Changing lives through the arts doesn’t stop at our students graduation. Phare Ponleu Selpak keeps close relationships with its alumni and artists, and supports them in starting their artistic careers and acquiring visibility thanks to various collaborations, exhibitions, tours, local performances, workshops and gainful employment through the Phare Performing Social Enterprise.
PPS aims to strengthen its Alumni engagement and support their initiatives through an Artistic Incubator programme.
Community Child Protection & Wellbeing
Phare Ponleu Selpak works with community leaders and members, and runs a Child and Parents Club to promote the safety and well-being of children through regular meetings, awareness workshops and activities covering topics such as child protection, child rights and domestic violence.
Special support in the form of daily lunches, school supplies, income subsidy for food is provided for the most vulnerable families, even if their children are not studying at PPS. Currently, Phare Ponleu Selpak monitors and supports three low socioeconomic communes and we aim to expand this to additional areas.
Collaborations with NGOs
Phare Ponleu Selpak works closely with many arts and non-arts NGOs based in Battambang and other provinces. PPS continues to collaborate with, for instance, Amrita and Cambodian Living Arts, in promoting arts and hosting activities together. PPS also works closely with Child Rights and Protection NGOs and many community-based organisations to provide integrated social support services and spread the accessibility of arts.
