About the Record-Breaking Event
For 24 hours straight, our stage was alive with 90 performers including artists from both Phare Ponleu Selpak and Phare, The Cambodian Circus—kept the energy alive, delivering an incredible showcase of circus mix with contemporary performance, live music, and storytelling. Each act seamlessly flowed into the next, ensuring that the stage remained active for the entire 24-hour performance.
It was exhausting. It was thrilling. And in the end, it was record-breaking.
Why Did We Take on This Challenge?
It wasn’t just about breaking a record. It was about proving the power of Cambodian circus arts, showing the world what our artists are capable of, and bringing hope during a time of crisis.
“When COVID hit, Phare Ponleu Selpak faced one of its toughest challenges. We lost 50% of our income,” said Osman Kawaja, Executive Director of Phare Ponleu Selpak. “Our performers had to stop performing, and our students could no longer go to school.”
Behind the Scenes: The Team That Made It Happen
A feat of this scale required the tireless efforts of not only the performers but also the entire Phare team. Our musicians played live for hours on end, technical staff managed seamless transitions, and the others worked behind the scenes to coordinate every detail. The commitment of our teachers, support staff, and independent juries ensured that the event ran smoothly and safely.
