PPS is strongly involved in the enforcement of Child Rights through delivering social services to the most vulnerable. PPS is aware that it is impossible for children to follow educative and cultural activities without their basic life needs being fulfilled. PPS social services support these needs in order to ensure children have access to their other rights.
PPS welcomes 30 children to its Child Care Centre who are entirely supported by PPS. Another 46 children are totally supported whilst remaining with their families. Services delivered to children include shelter, a nutrition programme, schooling and school material support, medical care support and referral service, personal counselling, conflict resolution and conciliation meetings…
Through the Leisure Centre, children (150 daily) also have access to a day care programme outside of school time and pre-school activities. It provides them with a non formal education, cultural, artistic and leisure activities including participative forms of education. This allows families to hold their daily activities while their children are taken care of in a safe and stimulating environment.
Social support is specific to each child following systematic and regular situation and needs' assessments. Some of the children supported by PPS are from the communities surrounding PPS’ compound and are identified through the social services outreach activities. These include permanent relationships with community leaders, families, and pupil-parent organisations. The rest of the children are referred to PPS by other organisations and institutions such as UNICEF, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Transcultural Psychosocial Organisation (TPO).
Social services are also dedicated to improving the living standards and the quality of life of the communities through awareness raising activities, organisation of community and pupil-parent meetings, family visits and family counselling. PPS networking also allows children to be referred to other organisations to complete PPS services and to ensure children have access to the best possible opportunities according to their specific needs and desires.
