Concentrating its activities on drawing and painting, as well as some sculpture work, the visual arts school has recently opened two new programmes:
1. The animation studio develops cartoon animation movies. There are currently 17 pupils attending the animation school, of which Por Chhunly is the head. Until now, its work has been devoted to awareness raising cartoons done for Tuk Saat (1001 fontaines pour demain – clean water drinking), Calmette Hospital (health centre promotion), UNICEF (road safety) and Oxfam Quebec (human trafficking and safe migration). This latest project is the first Cambodian feature length animation cartoon based on fiction and will take two to three years to complete.
2.New structure of publication and graphic design, Sonleuk Thmey (which means “new page”) was created in january 2009 at the end of many workshops about publication and publication for children in particular. Today, five illustrators and graphic designers from the school of visual arts of Phare Ponleu Selpak work in Sonleuk Thmey.
Sonleuk Thmey is made possible thanks to the support of the Embassy of France, Sipar and the French Association of the volunteers of progress.
