Louis Sclavis – a French clarinetist, saxophonist, and a composer of Jazz came to Phare Ponleu Selpak last year to initiate a short workshop with 10 of our musicians in the frame of cooperation with the French Cultural Center (CCF). PPS’ musicians and Louis Sclavis have showed this great work in French Cultural Center Phnom Penh’s premise combined with Jazz and Cambodian music. They also participated last January in the creation of the movies-concert “Courts Voyages” has ended in a mighty surprising musical creation to demonstrate the short movies of Georges Mélies and Charley Bowers.
Seven musicians among the 10 people have been practicing and composing their own music rhythms by using traditional Cambodian instruments mixed few western instruments keeping the genre of Jazz, Rock, Reggae and Khmer. Their exquisite, exuberant and melodious songs have been showing a few times already in our big top during circus performances with an ecstatic success. The concert brought all the audience on top of the world, even national and international guests. These seven talented people will grab their awesome songs to begin their movies concert and café concert on the tour to France organized by Louis Sclavis between October 10 and October 26, 2010.
