The visual arts school is at the foundation of the establishment Phare Ponleu Selpak. The visual arts department opened its door in 1994, and for the last 15 years it has been providing complex visual arts training to almost one thousand students, over 4 generations. On August 13th 2010 PPS visual arts program held a certificate awards ceremony for the students from the first, second, and third generation who have successfully completed their education in visual arts for more than five years.

This was the very first awards ceremony and PPS would like to congratulate and encourage the graduated students, who have a high ability in the techniques and innovations that will enable them to become professional artists or to seek further artisitc training, as their PPS qualification is recognised nationally and internationally.

Nowadays 103 students attend the visual arts program and lots more are independent artists, or staff at governmental organizations, in the private sector or with NGOs. In addition, these accomplishments promote Cambodian artistic and cultural identity to a better and greater future.

Project Coordinators:

Originally written for the renowned French theatre company the Théâtre du Soleil by Hélène Cixous, one of the most celebrated contemporary French authors and public intellectuals, The Terrible but Unfinished Story of Norodom Sihanouk is a modern history play dealing in a Shakespearean mode with a recent tragedy: Cambodia’s descent into genocidal terror, and Sihanouk’s doomed attempts to change the course of history, in the cold war proxy battle for Southeast Asia. Foregrounding international complicities in the build-up to the Khmer Rouge genocide, as epic struggles play out in the microcosm of a small ‘non-aligned' country, the play is also a highly poetic work in which the historical-political situation of Cambodia becomes a metaphor for the world.
